Lafayette, OR : Newberg man killed, two others injured after Yamhill County crash on Wednesday afternoon, September 21, 2016

An 85-year-old Newberg man was killed Wednesday afternoon after his car hit a truck pulling a trailer filled with gravel in Yamhill County, Oregon State Police said.

The Ford pickup was traveling on U.S. 99 near Lafayette when it veered right onto the shoulder of the highway then left into the oncoming lane, police said. A Toyota Prius hit the Ford, police said.

The Toyota's driver, 84-year-old Velda Mitchell was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The passenger, Richard Mitchell, was taken by Lifeflight to a Portland hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The Ford driver, 31-year-old Antonio Sanchez-Guillen of McMinnville, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The highway was closed for approximately three hours as authorities investigated the crash.
