Gainesville, FL : Altamonte Springs man dies in I-75 crash on Tuesday, 17th March, 2020

An Altamonte Springs man was killed and his passenger seriously injured in a crash on Interstate 75 early Tuesday in northwest Gainesville.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Peter William Kussman, 36, was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer north on I-75 near mile marker 390, at NW 39th Avenue in Gainesville, just after 3 a.m. when the SUV swerved right and went onto the east shoulder. The vehicle overturned and ejected both Kussman and passenger David James Makey, 25, of Orlando.

Kussman died in the crash. Makey was taken in serious condition to UF Health Shands Hospital, troopers reported.

Neither wore a seat belt. The investigation continues.
