KONAWA, OK : City councilwoman Tiffany Barton was killed on Saturday, June 10, 2017
City councilwoman Tiffany Barton was killed Saturday in an all-terrain vehicle crash in Pontotoc County, according to a post on the city's Facebook page Sunday.
Barton, 30, was killed riding as a passenger on an ATV driven by her husband, Christopher L.D. Barton, 30, who was treated and released at an Ada hospital.
A Konawa Facebook post Sunday states: "We at the City of Konawa are in disbelief of the tragic news of Councilwoman Tiffany Barton."
The accident happened about 10:45 p.m. Saturday in a pasture about 4 miles north of Byng on private property off State Highway 99, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
The city's Facebook post states: "Her smile, positive energy, and kind heart will truly be missed in our community. We offer our most deep and sincere condolences to her family and loved ones during this time of loss."
The patrol reports Christopher Barton was driving south in a pasture when he hit a telephone pole for an unknown reason. Helmets were not in use. Both were ejected.
