The driver who was hospitalized after a crash this morning near Hartly has died.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the single-vehicle crash, said State Police Master Corporal Gary Fournier.
At about 3:40 a.m., Elmer C. Jeronimo-Gonzalez, 29, of Marydel, Maryland, was driving a 2001 Toyota Tundra pickup west on Halltown Road (State Route 8).
As he was approaching Brittany Lane, the truck went off the north edge of the road and struck a tree with its front bumper, Fournier said.
Jeronimo-Gonzalez, who was not properly restrained, was taken by an emergency medical services crew to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital.
He died a short time later, Fournier said.
Halltown Road between Hartly Road (State Route 44) and Brittney Lane was closed for about two-and-a-half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
