Milwaukee,WI : Three people injured after Car crashes into apartment building and sparks fire on Wednesday ,August 5th 2015
Milwaukee police say three people suffered minor injuries when a car crashed into an apartment building, bursting into flames. The crash happened near 60th Street and Green Tree Road shortly after 1 a.m.
Witnesses helped the driver get out of the car. Police say that driver and two people living in the unit the car hit suffered minor injuries.
"There was so much stuff spraying out of the car that it just all caught fire," witness Floyd Taylor said. "When I walked up on the car it literally blew up."
Aaron Brumfield lives next door. He said his military training kicked in and he ran up to get people out of the car.
"The first thing, I went over and yelled 'Is anyone in the car?'" he said. "I got them out of the car, then yelled to the building to get out of the building. The building is on fire."
Veronica Jones was sleeping inside. She was thankful to be able to walk away.
"I was asleep in bed. Next thing I know, I'm thrown from the bed," she said. "I immediately ran through the hole (because) the car's on fire. I kept running down the street."
The building has been condemned. The Red Cross is helping 16 people who are displaced.
Police tell WISN 12 News the car's driver is facing basic driving charges now. They are investigating witness claims that the car was street racing before the crash.
