Boulder Creek, CA : Man killed in a car wreck in Santa Cruz Mountains on Sunday, January 1, 2017
Boulder Creek, California
A 26-year-old Redwood City man was killed just before midnight on New Year’s Eve after losing control of his truck on a private, dirt road located roughly five miles north of Boulder Creek on Highway 9.
At approximately 11:15 p.m., the man was driving a 1989 Toyota pickup truck down on property located at the 23000 block of Highway 9 when he lost control, according to California Highway Patrol officer Trista Drake. He was fully ejected from the vehicle. A 32-year-old passenger, also from Redwood City, was uninjured.
“Friends and acquaintances located the driver, place him in one of their personal vehicles and transported him to the entrance of the property to meet medical personnel,” Drake said.
The driver died at the scene before he could be transported to the hospital, according to Drake.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation, but alcohol is suspected to be a factor.
In addition to the fatal accident, CHP reported 13 DUI arrests during New Year’s Eve in Santa Cruz County — nearly twice as many as last year, according to Drake.
