Gorman, CA : Man injured in off-road crash on Sunday, January 4, 2015

A man suffered serious injuries Sunday when his all-terrain vehicle flipped over at an off-roading site south of Gorman, according to emergency response crew officials.

Shortly after 3:15 p.m. Sunday, paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a trauma call at the Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area off Interstate 5, said Fire Department Supervisor Cheryl Sims.

Officers with the California Highway Patrol reported the man suffered compound fractures and that his 7-year-old son was in the same vehicle at the time of the crash.

There was no report of a second person injured, Sims said.

“We got the call as a trauma call,” she said, “for a man who flipped over in an all-terrain vehicle.”

Helicopter rescue crews conducted “reconnaissance” of the recreational area, spotted the vehicle, circled around, landed and were then “guided” to the crash site. State park officials assisted in the search for the injured off-roader.

The chopper lifted off the ground at 4:31 p.m. and arrived at an area hospital, Sims said, at 4:41 p.m.

Four people accompanied the injured man to the hospital in the helicopter, she said.
