LINCOLN, NY : A one-vehicle accident on Burleson Road in Madison County on September, Saturday 2nd 2017

A one-vehicle accident on Burleson Road in Madison County late Saturday afternoon resulted in a 4-year-old child being killed, according to sheriff’s deputies.

The names of those involved were not being released as of Saturday night, deputies said.

Deputies and EMS were dispatched at approximately 3:40 p.m.to a reported motor vehicle crash with poles and wires down on Burleson Road, between Forest Avenue and Vedder Road. When deputies arrived, they found an extended cab pickup truck with very heavy damage, and a utility pole sheared in half with live wires down.

Deputies said a 27-year-old man driving the truck was headed south on Burleson Road when he apparently lost control and exited the roadway, impacting a utility pole on the passenger side.

The truck came to rest approximately 100 feet past the pole. Two children of the driver were in the backseat area of the pickup truck in proper child safety seats, and the driver was wearing a seatbelt, officials said.

The driver was evaluated on the scene; a 1-year-old boy was transported to Upstate Hospital in Syracuse with injuries that weren’t life-threatening; and a 4-year old girl was airlifted by Mercy Flight to Upstate Hospital in Syracuse, where she was pronounced dead on arrival, deputies said.

The Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction team was called to the scene. The investigation will be continuing.

Lincoln Fire Department, Vineall Ambulance, Greater Lenox Ambulance, Wampsville firefighters and Mercy Flight assisted on the scene.
