Jones County, MS : Two Jones County women seriously injured in one-vehicle rollover crash on Sunday afternoon, July 5, 2015

Two Jones County women, age 67 and 90, were seriously injured in Jones County Sunday afternoon, July 5, when their vehicle left the road, and rolled over several times, barely missing a utility pole and gas meter, before coming to rest right-side up.

At 1:53 p.m., emergency medical responders and rescue units from Powers and Glade Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the accident, which occurred on Lower Myrick Road near Triangle Drive.

Upon arrival, rescue personnel found the two women trapped inside a crumpled Nissan Rouge, and the hydraulic rescue tools were used to extricate the injured women from the vehicle.

The two women were transported to South Central Regional Medical Center by EMServ Ambulance Service and later transported to Forrest General Hospital with serious and potentially life-threatening injuries.

The weather may have played a part in the accident, and it remains under investigation by the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.

Firefighters worked in a steady rain, and a water filled drainage ditch during the rescue operations. A large cottonmouth moccasin was observed in the same ditch with the firefighters, but took refuge in a nearby culvert.

Lower Myrick Road remained closed for over an hour while rescue operations were performed.
