Amador County, CA : One killed in fiery Hwy. 16 big rig crash in Amador County on Saturday October 1, 2016

One person was killed Saturday in a fiery head-on crash between a big rig and a vehicle that prompted a several-hour closure of Highway 16 in Amador County, the California Highway Patrol said.The vehicle crossed over into the oncoming lanes of traffic in front of a big rig carrying hay just before 10:45 a.m. on Highway 16 near Latrobe Road, officers said.

The big rig was unable to avoid the vehicle and the two crashed head on. Both the big rig and the vehicle went up in flames and were destroyed in the fire.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The big rig driver survived and was not hurt, the CHP said. No one else was hurt

Highway 16 was closed for several hours between Latrobe and Old Sacramento roads, but that has since reopened.
