Indiana, PA : A 51-year-old Smethport woman was fatally injured in a three-vehicle crash on April, Saturday 15th 2017
A 51-year-old Smethport woman was fatally injured in a three-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Armstrong County. Five other motorists were injured.
Armstrong County Coroner Brian Myers said the victim’s identity would not be released until this morning because the woman’s family had not been notified of her death.
State police at Kittanning said the crash happened at 12:22 a.m. at 12267 Route 422, Plumcreek Township.
Police said a westbound Ford Mustang slowed to make a left turn and was hit from behind by a Jeep Commander. The impact shoved the Mustang into the opposite lane where it was hit by an eastbound GMC Acadia.
According to police, both the driver and passenger of the Mustang were ejected from their vehicle, and the passenger was the 51-year old woman who was pronounced dead at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. An autopsy revealed multiple blunt force trauma to the woman’s thorax and abdomen, Myers said.
The driver of the Mustang and the driver and passenger in the Jeep were flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. The driver and a passenger in the Acadia were treated at the scene by ambulance crews for minor injuries.
Police did not give the drivers’ names but said the operator of the Mustang was a 55-year-old man from Kittanning; the driver of the Jeep was a 39-year-old man from Kittanning; and the driver of the Acadia was a 26-year-old woman also from Kittanning.
