Two brothers who worked for the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office were killed in a crash Monday afternoon in Isle of Wight County.
The crash occurred about 2:15 p.m. on U.S. Route 460, just east of the town of Zuni, state police said. A farm equipment grain truck was traveling west on Route 460 when it ran off the left side of the highway. The truck’s driver lost control, which caused the vehicle to come back into the westbound lanes, cross the center line and strike an eastbound 2006 Plymouth PT Cruiser head-on, police said.The PT Cruiser’s driver and passenger died at the scene. They were identified as John Edgar Mallory, 60, and Earl Garnett Mallory III, 65, respectively.
The driver of the grain truck, Walter Crocker Jr., was flown to Norfolk Sentara Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. He was charged with reckless driving for failing to maintain proper control of the vehicle, police said. The crash remains under investigation.
