Laie, HI : 27-year-old Nakita Bryant dead after single-car crash on Oahu’s North Shore early Wednesday morning, March 18, 2015
A terrible tragedy occurred on Oahu’s North Shore early Wednesday morning.
Police responded to a single-car crash just outside of Laie at around 1:45 a.m.
Police say a vehicle was driving southbound on Kamehameha Highway when it lost control, hit the plastic fence, rolled and slid into a open field near Gunstock Ranch. Two victims were found on the ground after they had been thrown from their car on impact.
One of those victims, identified as 27-year-old Nakita Bryant, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 19-year-old cousin was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Police say speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
Emergency Medical Services initially reported that Bryant was driving the car and her cousin was the passenger, however police later said they’re still unsure who was driving, because both occupants were ejected.
Neither victim was wear a seat belt.
In the darkness of the early morning hours, it was difficult to make out the mangled car.
An investigator with the medical examiner’s office allowed Nakita’s father, fiancee and stepfather to view the body to confirm her identity. Police officers on the scene consoled them afterwards.
