VILLA GROVE, IL : A Charleston woman died in a head-on collision on Saturday, July 29, 2017
A Charleston woman died in a head-on collision just south of Villa Grove Saturday morning.
The Douglas County Coroner said Pamela Warpenburg, 56, of Charleston, died at the scene.
Illinois State Police at Pesotum did not release the name of the 29-year-old Tuscola man whose truck she hit.
Police said the crash happened on Illinois 130, about a mile south of Villa Grove in Douglas County at 9:49 a.m.
Crash reconstructionists from the state police are trying to piece together exactly what happened.
Preliminary information is that Mrs. Warpenburg was driving a Chevrolet HHR passenger car north when she drifted in to the southbound lane.
The Tuscola man was driving his Silverado pickup truck south. He saw her coming and moved to the shoulder but because of a guardrail, could not get over far enough to avoid the collision.
The vehicles hit head-on in the southbound lane.
An autopsy was scheduled.
The Tuscola man was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Both drivers had on seat belts.
