Colonie, NY : Car flees traffic stop, becomes involved in 4-vehicle crash in Colonie on Central Avenue on Saturday, 8th December 2018
Colonie police were still seeking a suspect Sunday who was part of a crash involving four vehicles on Central Avenue on Saturday.
According to police, a patrol car pulled over a vehicle about 5:50 p.m. after the driver passed through a stop sign. The car initially stopped for the police in a nearby parking lot, but as the officer interviewed the driver, he suddenly drove away, traveling west on Central Avenue. There were two males in the vehicle, a gray Audi.
Witnesses reported that the suspect vehicle drove west on Central Avenue near Taft Furniture in the median lane at a high rate of speed with no headlights on in the darkness, police said. The Audi sideswiped an eastbound CDTA bus as well as a westbound Kia SUV before crashing head on into another eastbound car, a Ford Fusion, at the intersection of Central Avenue and Dunning Avenue, police said.
The officer from the traffic stop arrived at the scene as the two occupants of the Audi fled on foot. After a search of the area by Colonie Police to include K-9, one of the occupants was located on a nearby street. He was transported to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries and is being interviewed by police.
