Kailua Kona, HI : A man died and two people were injured following a three-vehicle accident on Wednesday, June 7, 2017

A man died and two people were injured following a three-vehicle accident Wednesday morning on Highway 19 in Paauilo.

The head-on collision occurred when a southbound four-door sedan hit a northbound dump truck towing a flat bed trailer. The sedan, police reported, crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a dump truck heading north shortly after 9 a.m. The driver of the sedan was ejected from the vehicle and pinned under the flat bed trailer and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Hawaii Fire Department.

A southbound sport utility vehicle that was following the sedan was also involved sustaining minor damage. The driver of the dump truck was treated and released at the scene. Two occupants of the SUV had no injuries.

Traffic is being rerouted through Hauola and Pohakea roads.
