Madras, OR : Three Warm Springs teens injured in Hwy. 26 crash early Monday on August 25, 2014
Three Warm Springs teens were seriously injured early Monday when their car left Highway 26 southeast of Madras and flipped several times, Oregon State Police said late Monday afternoon.
A dog was killed in the crash, which occurred around 3:30 a.m. about eight miles southeast of Madras, said OSP Lt. Gregg Hastings.
A 2001 Toyota Camry driven by Rosebud Whipple, 16, was heading west near milepost 8 when it went off the road and rolled several times, coming to rest on its top, Hastings said.
The driver and passenger Annalise Whipple, 13, were taken by ambulance to St. Charles Madras, then flown to OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland. A spokeswoman for the Portland hospital said the older girl was in critical condition Monday evening, while Annalise Whipple was in fair condition.
A second passenger, Rhienna Wolfe, 16, was flown to St. Charles Bend, Hasting said, adding that a dog was found deceased inside the car.
OSP crash reconstruction experts, assisted by a Bend police reconstructionist, were investigating the cause of the crash, the lieutenant said, adding that seat belt use had not been confirmed.
OSP troopers from the Bend and Madras offices were assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County EMS, Jefferson County Fire District No. 1 and ODOT.
