One person was seriously injured when a deer crossing the southbound lane of the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeast Extension Saturday afternoon in Montgomery County caused a three-vehicle crash, according to state police.
The animal was struck at 2:45 p.m. by a car at mile marker 38.5, between the Quakertown and Lansdale exits, police said. The deer crashed through the windshield of the vehicle, causing severe injuries to one of the occupants, according to authorities.
Two vehicles trailing the first car crashed and those inside reported minor injuries, state police said.
The individual in the first car who was hurt was transported by ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, according to state police. The southbound portion of the highway was closed until 4:10 p.m. while authorities cleared the wreckage, police said.
