Vienna, NY : Driver killed crashing stolen pickup truck into tree in Vienna early Sunday, June 19, 2016

State police say the driver of a stolen pickup truck is dead after he crashed into a tree while trying to flee from troopers in central New York.

Troopers say Tyler K. Sharron, 18, of Rome, was the driver of the pickup.

Troopers spotted the truck speeding early Sunday in the Oneida County town of Vienna.

Police say the driver briefly braked when troopers activated their emergency lights, but then sped off.

The pickup truck then went around a curve, left the road and hit a tree. The driver was partially thrown from the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say an investigation determined the truck had been stolen.

An investigation is ongoing.
