A motorcyclist was killed in an accident on Elm Street Monday night, police said

The 39-year-old Northampton man driving the motorcycle was the only person involved in the single-vehicle accident, which occurred around 6 p.m. near the intersection of Elm Street (Route 9) and Paradise Road, according to Lt. David Callahan.

He was taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital by ambulance before being pronounced dead, Callahan said.

Police have not released the man’s name or any other details about the accident.

The section of Elm Street from Henshaw Avenue to Crescent Street was closed for more than three hours while Northampton and state police investigated the crash. The road reopened around 9:30 p.m., Callahan said.
