Two people were listed in critical condition at a hospital after a multi-vehicle crash Monday afternoon, authorities said.
Just before 3:10 p.m., East Contra Costa firefighters received a report of the collision on Vasco Road between Camino Diablo and Walnut Boulevard, interim battalion chief Craig Auzenne said.
Arriving firefighters found two vehicles with major damage, one to its front and the other to its side, and a third vehicle with moderate front-end damage.
Lanes of Vasco Road were closed just after 3:20 p.m. and reopened around 4:40 p.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Damian Cistaro said.
Ambulance crews joined firefighters in caring for two people until CalStar1 and CHP H30 rescue helicopters could fly each victim to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. One patient suffered major injuries, Cistaro said.
No update on the patients’ condition was immediately available Monday night.
