Victoria, TX : Two dead in head-on collision near El Toro on Saturday, October 1, 2016

Two people were killed in a multivehicle wreck about 4:25 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 59 near El Toro.

At 10 p.m., the identities of the dead remained undisclosed pending family notification, said Edna Fire Department Chief Kurt Janica. Others who were injured were treated at the scene and refused transport to hospitals, the chief said.

The wreck occurred when a southbound vehicle entered the northbound lanes of U.S. 59 on an overpass above Farm-to-Market Road 234 for an unknown reason.

Traffic was blocked for about three hours as firefighters and other responders worked to clear the scene until 7:30 p.m.
