Schenectady, NY : Bicyclist killed in Albany crash on Thursday, October, 19th 2017

A bicyclist has died after sustaining serious injuries when struck by a vehicle early Thursday in Albany, police said.

The bicyclist was crossing northbound Washington Avenue Extension at the entrance to Crossgates Commons about 5:30 a.m. when he was struck by a car traveling westbound, police said.

The victim, a 31-year-old man, was found by emergency responders in the westbound lane. The bicyclist was treated at the scene and transported to Albany Medical Center, police said.

The victim's name has not been released by police pending notification of the family.

The drive of the vehicle stopped at the scene and has been cooperative with officers, police said.

Washington Avenue Extension westbound has since reopened.
