Route 202 in Barrington was back open Monday afternoon after a crash left a woman with life-threatening injuries.
The single-car crash happened about 5:30 a.m., police said. The crash is still under investigation, but police said alcohol was definitely a factor.The car veered off the road and crashed into a tree, police said. The driver was the only person in the car, which had left the Rochester area and was heading west toward Concord, police said.
Police Chief Bob Williams said first responders were initially concerned a child might have also been in the car.
"The responding officers arrived on scene, and they noticed an empty child seat in the back, and they were concerned that the child may have been ejected into the wood-line area," Williams said.
Crews began searching the woods but found nothing. Williams said they later learned the child was safe with another relative.
The woman's identity has not been released.
Williams said anyone who witnessed the crash or who has information about what led up to it should call police.
