LaHARPE, IL : Teenager from Carthage killed in Hancock County crash on Sunday, 22nd December, 2019
A Carthage teenager was killed in a single-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon north of LaHarpe, according to the Illinois State Police.
Jacob M. Huls, 19, was driving north on Illinois Route 94 one-half mile north of County Road 2800 North about 1 p.m. when he swerved to avoid a collision with a slowing vehicle in front of him. That vehicle slowed to avoid another vehicle pulling out of a driveway.
Huls’ vehicle struck the ditch on the west side of the road and rolled into a field. Both Huls and his passenger, Cory M. Squier, 20, of LaHarpe, were ejected. Neither was wearing a seat belt.
Huls was pronounced dead at the scene. Squier was transported to Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa, with non-life-threatening injuries.
