Yachats,OR : Coos Bay man killed in accident south of Yachats on March, Sunday 18th 2018

On Sunday at about 11:07 a.m., Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a report of a multiple vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 101 at milepost 174, south of Yachats.

A preliminary investigation revealed a red 2002 Ford Ranger pickup was northbound on Highway 101 at mile post 174, operated by Jeremy Hackney, 45, from Coos Bay. For an unknown reason, the Ranger went into the southbound lane while navigating a right-hand curve. The Ranger impacted the driver's side of a southbound white 2013 Dodge pickup with a camper. The Ranger then impacted the driver's side of a southbound 1998 white Ford mini van that was behind the Dodge pickup. The Ranger continued to the west side of highway and rolled onto its driver's side.

The driver of the Ranger suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in the Ranger, Stephanie Hackney, 43 and wife of the deceased, was transported to Florence Peace Health Hospital for serious/non-life-threatening injuries. No other people were injured from the crash.
