Longview, TX : DeBerry man killed in fiery wreck near Waskom on Saturday, January, 20th 2018

A DeBerry man died Saturday afternoon near Waskom after his car slid off the road, hit several trees and became engulfed in flames, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

Ronnie Martin, 23, had been driving north on FM 9 around 1 p.m. Saturday “at an unsafe speed,” DPS said.

When his car hit a curve in the roadway, DPS said it traveled into the other right-of-way, overcorrected and slid sideways before striking numerous trees.

DPS said Martin’s car became wedged between several trees and was engulfed in flames.

No other cars were involved in the accident.
