Madison,MS : Family injured in I-55 car accident on December, Sunday 10th 2017
Police continue to investigate a crash that occurred here on Sunday afternoon that resulted in three Richland residents being sent to the hospital.
The crash occurred on I-55 southbound near mile marker 108.
The driver, 26-year-old Flavio Ivan Garcia, was taken by helicopter to University of Mississippi Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery and remains in stable condition.
Two other passengers were transported to UMMC by ambulance. Police say 30-year-old Nancy Guerra Garcia was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Breana Arleen Huerta, 8 years old, was also treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Flavio was traveling south in the second lane when police say it appears he over-corrected his Ford Explorer to avoid a collision with an unknown black SUV.
“It was reported to police that the unknown black SUV swerved towards Mr. Garcia’s lane of traffic,” a release from the Madison PD stated. “He lost control of the vehicle and overturned four times until the vehicle rested upon its top cab in the median on Interstate 55.”
The Madison Fire Department was dispatched to the scene and had to use extraction equipment to remove the three people from the Explorer.
