INWOOD, IA : Iowa school confirms third grader's death in crash involving bus on Friday, 19th March 2021

The West Lyon Community School District confirmed one of its students died Friday morning.

School officials said third-grade student Jessica Yeaman was killed in an accident between a school bus and a single-vehicle. None of the students on the bus were injured.

"West Lyon will have grief counseling staff available today into next week for those struggling with this event. We ask that you keep the family in your thoughts and prayers," the school wrote on Facebook.

The Iowa State Patrol said the crash happened on A-50, about four miles west of Highway 18.

"The bus was stopped to pick up students when a vehicle struck it from behind," said Sgt. Alex Dinkla, with the Iowa State Patrol.

The Iowa State Patrol is still investigating the crash.
