Alexandria, LA : Boyce woman dies in I-49 wreck on Sunday afternoon, March 5, 2017
A Boyce woman died alongside Interstate 49 Sunday afternoon after she became trapped under a car on the shoulder that had been hit, according to police.
The unidentified 48-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Alexandria Police Department. She was among three people who were hit in the incident, which was reported around 1:45 p.m. on a section of the interstate between MacArthur Drive and Airbase Road.
According to police, one driver stopped on the shoulder because of a flat tire. The drivers of two other vehicles stopped also, "apparently to render assistance," reads the release.
A fourth vehicle then hit the last parked car, which started a chain reaction to involve the other two parked cars. One of those cars hit the three people standing nearby, and the Boyce woman was trapped underneath one.
The other two injured pedestrians were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, reads the release. The woman's name has not been released by police.
"It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were involved; however, that is being investigated as it is with all traffic fatalities," it reads.
