A New Castle man was killed early Sunday when his vehicle struck a tree, state police reported.
Police said Justin Patrick Delaney, 26, was driving on Ellwood Road in Slippery Rock Township around 1:45 a.m. when his car left the road, hitting a mailbox and ditch before crashing into a tree in the front yard of a home in the 4000 block. Delaney, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by a Lawrence County assistant coroner.
Assisting at the scene were emergency personnel from Shenango and Slippery Rock townships, Noga EMS and Del’s Towing.
Police are continuing to investigate, but said in their report that they suspect alcohol or drugs played a role.
