CHESHIRE, MA : Dalton man killed, four injured in Cheshire crash early Friday on Friday, 7th October 2016

A Dalton man was killed and four others were injured early Friday when the car they were riding in ran off the road.

Robert Pearson, 19, was a passenger in a 2009 Nissan Altima when it crashed shortly before 1 a.m. on Fred Mason Road, according to a release by Massachusetts State Police.

The car, driven by a 19-year-old Adams man, was heading south when it veered off the west side of the road and rolled over after striking trees.

Pearson was transported to Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Two other passengers, a 22-year-old North Adams man and a 30-year-old North Adams man, suffered serious injuries and were transported to Berkshire Medical Center. The operator and another passenger, a 19-year-old North Adams woman, suffered minor injuries and were also transported to BMC. All four are expected to survive.

Pearson was a 2015 graduate of Charles H. McCann Technical School in North Adams. The names of the injured were not released.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to have played a role, police said.

Both lanes of Fred Mason Road were closed for five hours to enable rescue response and crash investigation.

The crash remains under investigation by Troop B of the Massachusetts State Police. No further information was available.

An online fundraiser has been launched at youcaring.com to help Pearson's family meet expenses.
