Waverly, NY : Man ticketed after car crashes into northern New York river; driver walked away from scene on Sunday September 21st 2014

State police say they've ticketed a 24-year-old man after he walked away from a crash that sent his car into a northern New York river. Troopers say they responded late Sunday night to a report of a vehicle submerged in the St. Regis River off a road in the Franklin County town of Waverly, in the northern Adirondacks. Emergency crews searched the river and the surrounded area for hours but didn't find anyone. Troopers determined the car had traveled down an embankment and hit a tree and flipping into the river. Police say the car's owner, a 24-year-old man from Moira (MOY'-ruh), was the sole occupant and had left the scene on foot immediately after the crash. Troopers found him Monday morning and ticketed him for unreasonable speed, failure to keep right and not wearing a seatbelt.
