LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL : 16-year-old killed in Lawrence Co. single-vehicle crash following pursuit on Monday, 4th September 2023

A 16-year-old Sparkman High School football player died in a crash following a Decatur Police pursuit into Courtland on Monday.

Decatur officers attempted a traffic stop on Hwy. 67 near Danville Road at 2:40 a.m. on Sept. 4, according to a Decatur Police spokesperson. The driver, identified by the Lawrence County Coroner as Jaiden DeJarnett, failed to stop and led police on a pursuit into Lawrence County.

Police said DeJarnett lost control of the vehicle and then struck a tree on Jefferson Street in Courtland. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
