Fairmont, w.v : Five people injured after I-79 accident on Monday, July 25, 2016
Five people were taken to the hospital Monday after a three-vehicle accident on Interstate 79.
Shawn Parker, shift captain with the Marion County 911 Center, said around 1:30 p.m. Monday, a vehicle accident involving three cars occurred in the southbound lane of I-79 near the 139 mile marker and Prickett's Creek exit.
Parker said five people were transported to local hospitals from the accident. He said the cause of the accident is unknown at this time and doesn't know if the storm that rolled through the area at that time has anything to do with it.
Parker said one of the vehicles involved did leave the scene prior to police arriving.
The West Virginia State Police is investigating the accident.
