Olympia, WA : Injured passenger has seizures after I-5 crash, driver arrested on Friday, January 27th 2017

A woman is in custody after she lost control of her vehicle Friday morning and crashed along Interstate 5 near Southcenter, injuring her passenger who began having seizures, the Washington State Patrol reports.
Alcohol or drugs were believed to be a factor in the crash.
State troopers and medics responded to the scene, in the southbound lanes of I-5, after receiving reports of a car slamming into the guardrail there.
When they arrived, they found that the 21-year-old passenger in the car had apparently injured her head and began having seizures, said Trooper Rick Johnson. She was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
A preliminary investigation found that the driver was heading south on I-5 and began to take the HOV bypass on the left when she lost control of the car, slammed into the barrier and came to rest on the shoulder a short distance up the bypass ramp.
The 25-year-old driver was taken into custody for vehicular assault. Troopers at the scene "believe there is definitely impairment of the driver," Johnson said.
"If you're driving a vehicle and you're driving in a manner that could cause harm to somebody, or you're impaired and you have a passenger in the vehicle and that passenger is injured, that also constitutes vehicular assault," he said.
Traffic was slow getting past the accident scene. Troopers hoped to have the area cleared by mid-morning.
