Saratoga County, NY : College student from Mass. hit, killed by drunk driver in New York on Saturday night, oct 31, 2015

A student from Lenox, Mass. studying in upstate New York was killed after police say he and two others were run down by a drunk driver Saturday night.

Michael Hedges, 19, was walking near Skidmore College in Greenfield, New York with two friends when a driver hit the group, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s office.

All three students were taken to Albany Medical Center, where Hedges was pronounced dead at 5:43 a.m. Sunday.

In a message posted on the school’s website Sunday, Skidmore President Philip A. Glotzbach said the two other students remain in intensive care.

“This is a very sad time for every member of our campus community,” Glotzbach wrote. “Please do everything you can to console and look out for each other as we send our thoughts and prayers to the students and families involved in this tragedy.”

The driver was identified by police as Thomas H. Gorman, 64, of Saratoga Springs, New York. He was charged with felony vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated. He is being held in jail, according to the sheriff’s office, and more charges are expected.
