SHELBY COUNTY, TN : Husband killed, wife fighting for life after motorcycle crash on Wednesday, 28th September 2016
Family from across the country are rushing to the side of a woman who lost her husband in a motorcycle crash Wednesday night.
Cassie Kingdon is still struggling to survive. Her daughter, April Haynie, has not left her mother’s side since she found out Kingdon and April’s stepfather Bruce Kingdon were in a crash.
"She's in trauma ICU. She's still sedated and having a breathing tube,” Haynie said. “She's got multiple fractures to her leg and arms, and she's got a broken vertebra in her back."
According to Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the couple was on their motorcycle on Woodstock Cuba Road when a pickup truck pulling a trailer with a riding lawn mower on board pulled out of a driveway.
Deputies said the couple crashed into the left side of the trailer, and both were thrown from the bike.
Haynie said her parents were just a mile away from home.
“It was his day off yesterday so they were--it felt good. They were out on the motorcycle,” she said.
SCSO said no one has been cited or arrested in the crash, because they are still investigating how it happened.
The family hopes others will learn from this tragedy.
“I just hope the take away here is that people pay attention,” family friend Tessa Loper said. “Not only for motorcycles but everyone, you know, all the parties involved here are completely devastated."
