Barnet, VT : Elderly man crashes car after falling asleep behind the wheel in Barnet on May 30, 2014

An elderly New Hampshire man is lucky to be alive after falling asleep behind the wheel in Barnet.

State police say 80-year-old Daniel Halsall of New Ipswich, dozed off Friday afternoon while driving on Interstate 91 and West Barnet Road. Troopers say his car went into the median, hit a tree, dropped off a 20 foot ledge and landed on its side on the shoulder of Barnet Center Road.

He was trapped until first responders arrived. Halsall was taken to the hospital with minor back and hand injuries. He was wearing a seat belt. The crash remains under investigation.
