Four people were killed and four children injured in a head-on collision on FM 3083 in Montgomery County.

The crash happened Tuesday afternoon about 10 miles southeast of Conroe, shutting down 3083 for several hours.

Deputies say two vehicles, a truck and an SUV, collided when one of them veered into oncoming traffic. The pickup then burst into flames.

Four adults were pronounced dead at the scene, two in each vehicle. Three children were taken to a nearby hospital while a fourth child, who was more critically hurt, was airlifted to the Medical Center.

Texas DPS officials are still investigating the crash and didn’t identify any of the victims.

"This is a preventable crash, this did not have to happen," said a DPS trooper.
