Lodi, WI : 16-year-old dies after being pulled from vehicle upside down in water on Tuesday, January 26, 2016
A 16-year-old Town of Lodi girl who died after the car she was driving slid off a private driveway and into a creek was identified by the Columbia County Sheriff's Office Wednesday as Sierra Michelle Skarda.
The crash was reported shortly after 10 a.m., Tuesday on County Highway J at Fair St. in the Town of Lodi, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
According to the release, the driveway was snow-covered and slippery when the car slid out of control into Spring Creek, where it landed upside down and became partially submerged.
After a towing service righted the vehicle Lodi police extricated Sierra, who was wearing a seat belt.
She was taken to a hospital, where she later died, according to the release.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene of the crash after fluids from the vehicle flowed into Spring Creek, according to the sheriff's office.
