Norfolk, VA : Suffolk man dies in 3-vehicle crash in Chesapeake on Sunday, February 12th 2017
A Suffolk man died in a three-vehicle crash Sunday.
Sgt. Michelle Anaya, Virginia State Police spokeswoman, said the crash took place around 7:50 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 664 near Portsmouth Boulevard in Chesapeake.
Anaya said a 2013 Nissan Altima was going south when the driver crossed over the median into the northbound lanes and hit a 2011 Ford F-150 and a 1995 Lexus GS300 head on.
The driver of the Lexus, identified as Darryl D. Matthews, 37, of Suffolk, died during the head-on impact.
The driver of the Nissan was trapped inside and had to be extracted, Anaya said. The driver was taken to Sentara Norfolk General with serious, life-threatening injuries.
The people inside the Ford F-150 were not injured.
Anaya said alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
The crash is under investigation.
