Layton, UT : Clearfield man dies in I-15 crash near Layton on Sunday, May 8, 2016

A Clearfield man died and his passenger was seriously injured on I-15 Sunday near Layton after the driver apparently lost control on wet roads, sideswiped a car and then ended up in the path of 37-foot motor home, troopers said.

Stephen Stumph, 75, was driving north on the interstate about 9 a.m. "at a speed too fast for the weather conditions" when he lost control of the vehicle in an area where there was a pool of standing water, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

After colliding with the car, Strumph's vehicle was pushed directly into the path of the motor home, which then struck his vehicle "squarely on the driver's door," troopers said.

A male passenger in the car was transported by medical helicopter to University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The occupants of the motor home were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. Those inside the first car struck in the accident were not injured, troopers said.

All people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts, according to the UHP.
