Smithville, TN : Man killed in logging accident on Friday, November 11th 2016

A Spencer man died Friday after being struck by a tree while logging off Indian Creek Youth Camp Road Friday.

Royce Turner, 56, was recovered from the hillside by members of the Smithville-DeKalb County Rescue Squad, but was reportedly dead at the scene. Rescue squad member Joe Johnson told the Review that the accident happened on treacherous terrain.

“Two men were logging on a very steep hillside, and one of the men was cut down a tree that hit another tree when it fell, causing the second tree to fall on Turner, who was dead when we arrived.
