Two people were hospitalized after a single-vehicle crash near the Shelby-Macon county line on Monday night.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Vivian Black, 84, of Clarence was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Beretta east on Shelby County Road 404 at 10 p.m. when she failed to negotiate a turn, ran off the east side of the road and struck a fence. Police said Black's vehicle came to rest in a soybean field.

Black was taken to Samaritan Hospital in Macon with moderate injuries. A passenger in the vehicle, Orville L. Chick, 81, of Clarence, was not injured but was taken to Samaritan as a precautionary measure.

Police said both Black and Chick were wearing seat belts. Black's vehicle sustained moderate damage, police said.
Salt River Ambulance and the Shelby County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene.
