Orlando, FL : Altamonte Springs man dead in motorcycle wreck on Monday, January 9th 2017

An Altamonte Springs man died Monday, five days after he was thrown from his motorcycle in a pileup crash in Volusia County.

Timothy Ervin, 47, died shortly after noon at Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, deputies said.

The crash Wednesday started when a driver made a sudden turn from Saxon Boulevard to Diane Terrace in Deltona, said Gary Davidson, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Office.

The vehicle behind the turning car hit the brakes hard and someone plowed into the back of the car. Then Ervin crashed into the back of that vehicle, Davidson said.

Ervin, who wasn't wearing a helmet, was thrown from the bike. He had severe head injuries, Davidson said.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and had underwent surgery. He was recovering in the intensive care unit and listed in stable condition when his health "took a turn," Davidson said.
