Saint Clair Shores, MI : Motorcyclist dies after police car collision in St. Clair Shores on Wednesday, July 22nd, 2015

Authorities say a 20-year-old motorcyclist has died following a collision with a police car in suburban Detroit.

Police say the crash happened on Wednesday night in St. Clair Shores. The Macomb Daily of Mt. Clemens reports the police car was turning around to make a traffic stop at the time of the crash.

Police Chief Todd Woodcox says in a statement that the crash "was a tragic accident and was not the result of a police pursuit."

The name of the motorcyclist wasn't immediately released, but police say he was from St. Clair Shores.

State police are investigating. Woodcox says the department "cannot undo the tragedy, but we can promise a full and complete investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash." Details about the officer involved weren't immediately released.
