Tampa, FL : A 40-year-old man killed in Tampa on early Saturday, July 19, 2014

A 40-year-old Hillsborough County man was killed early Saturday when he was run over by a vehicle on North 50th St. just north of Adamo Dr. in Tampa.

James W. Mingo Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene just before 8 a.m.

According to a Tampa Police Department report the deceased was lying in the roadway with a bicycle when he was hit. Investigators say the unidentified driver of a 2002 Honda Civic attempted to brake but was unable to do so after he came upon Mingo.

The vehicle ran over the bike and Mingo. Damage to the Honda was consistent with what the driver told investigators.

The northbound lanes of North 50th St. were closed for approximately two hours as detectives conducted their investigation.

Authorities do not know why Mingo was in the roadway. No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
