HAVERHILL, MA : Motorcycle crash shuts down street on River Street on Thursday, 16th August 2018

The driver of a motorcycle was transported to Lawrence General Hospital after crashing with a car on River Street on Thursday afternoon, according to police.

A portion of River Street was closed to traffic after the accident that severely injured the man, whose identity has not yet been released.

The man's condition and injuries were described as "serious and life-threatening," by Deputy Chief Anthony Haugh Thursday night.

The street was closed while state and local police reconstructed and investigated the crash, then later was reopened.

The car and motorcycle collided around 449 River St., near the Moody School, shortly after noon, Capt. Robert Pistone said in a statement.
