Crystal River, FL : Motorcyclist in critical condition after US 19 crash on Wednesday, December 28th 2016

A motorcyclist was airlifted Wednesday after a collision with a trailer on U.S. 19 near Homosassa.According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers on the scene, Rene Cruz Jr., 26, of Homosassa, was driving a 2009 Ford Flex pulling a trailer containing miscellaneous items south on U.S. 19 near the intersection with West Highland Street as Paul Fassold, 22, of Crystal River, was riding a motorcycle northbound on U.S. 19 in the outside lane, approaching the intersection. According to the FHP, Cruz Jr. — the Ford’s sole occupant — turned his vehicle left onto West Highland Street, putting his trailer in the path of the motorcycle. The motorcycle collided with the trailer and Fassold was ejected, traveling more than 50 feet onto the right shoulder of the highway.

Fassold, who was not wearing a helmet, was airlifted with critical injuries to Ocala Regional Hospital. Cruz Jr. was not transported for medical treatment.

The accident slowed traffic in the area for a couple of hours in the early afternoon
